Review: Kulti by Mariana Zapata
SYNOPSIS:
“Trust me, I’ve wanted to punch you in the face a time or five.”
When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. Keywords: supposed to.
It didn't take a week for 27-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she'd seen in the international soccer icon - why she'd ever had his posters on her wall or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies.
Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man who hadn't known she'd existed. So she isn't prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team's season: a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he'd once been.
Review:
THIS BOOK YALL! I finished listening to Kulti last week but I am STILL thinking about it. That's when I know I've found a good one: I keep thinking on it & I want to reread it! Here's my thoughts:
-> This book is long AF
-> This book is the SLOWEST OF BURNS
-> This was one of the most epic love stories I've ever read & worth every page!!
Sal is badass, sassy soccer player whos childhood crush (& a legendary German soccer star, Reiner Kulti) becomes her coach as she plays professionally in Houston. Sal expects her idol to be the passionate soccer legend he is known for but is surprised by his reclusive tendencies and quietness. Sal begins to befriend Kulti and slowly, SLOWLY, they form a bond that cannot be broken.
And can I take a minute to talk about book dads real quick? Sal's dad was so funny and such a great supporter of Sal. I loved him!!
Side note: if you are into audio books, Callie Dalton does an amazing job on the audio for this one.
