Review: Life's Too Short by Abby Jimenez

Review: Life's Too Short by Abby Jimenez

SYNOPSIS:

Vanessa lives life on her own terms — one day at a time, every day to its fullest. She isn’t willing to waste a moment or miss out on an experience when she has no idea whether she shares the same fatal genetic condition as her mother. Besides, she has way too much to do, traveling the globe and showing her millions of YouTube followers the joy in seizing every moment.

But after her half-sister suddenly leaves Vanessa in custody of her infant daughter, she is housebound, on mommy duty for the foreseeable future, and feeling totally out of her element.

The last person she expects to show up offering help is the unbelievably hot lawyer who lives next door, Adrian Copeland. After all, she barely knows him. But as they get closer, Vanessa realizes that her carefree ways and his need for a structured plan could never be compatible for the long term. Then again, she should know better than anyone that life’s too short to fear taking the biggest risk of all. . .

YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE!! & if you like audiobooks, GET THE AUDIO! You won’t regret it!

This book has Abby Jimenez’s signature wit mixed with near heartbreak. Jimenez typically writes very realistic and vulnerable circumstances of women going through some shit but prevail in the end and this book is no different. I latched onto Vanessa almost immediately. She lives her life to the absolute fullest, taking every opportunity like each day might be her last. She has a bit of a dysfunctional family that she tries her best to support. She is doing all these things while also denying herself finding a partner because she doesn’t want to tie herself to someone if her life ends abruptly like her sister and mothers did.

Adrian is a workaholic who thinks he is living it up when in reality he barely has a life or fun at all. He doesn’t have many friends, he has a pseudo girlfriend who only visits once a month, and he spends more time at his office than his apartment. The meet-cute in this book is SO ADORABLE - just you wait!

Vanessa becomes the legal guardian of her half sisters infant daughter when her sister can’t stay sober enough to care for her. Once Adrian and Vanessa meet, Vanessa’s vibrant personality takes Adrian completely by surprise. He is completely rigid while Vanessa ebbs and flows. Initially, she starts to convince him to join her on spontaneous outings and Adrian slowly learns to chill out. I LOVE THIS TROPE! Surly man doesn’t know how to have fun, while vibrant woman pulls him into the fun life. It is so damn adorable.

Now, yes, this book was seriously funny and cozy to read but you might also want to grab a box of tissues because I lost it a couple times. Abby did such a phenomenal job creating these characters and writing a story I’m sure I’ll reread several times over!
